Schafer offers comprehensive asbestos consulting services as summarized below;
Schafer is certified as an Asbestos Consulting Firm and Asbestos Laboratory with the CDPHE (Registration # ACF-15023) and is a successful participant in the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) Proficiency Analytical Testing (PAT) Program for Phase Contrast Microscopy (PCM) analysis for airborne asbestos fibers (Laboratory ID# 196128). Our staff’s asbestos certifications include; Air Monitoring Specialists, Asbestos Building Inspectors, Asbestos Management Planners, Project Designers, and NIOSH 582E analysts.
Prior to renovation activities that may impact suspect ACM, the EPA and CDPHE require that suspect building materials be tested for asbestos content by a certified asbestos building inspector. Schafer performs inspections prior to renovation for housing and single family residential dwelling (SFRD), commercial, industrial and government structures.
Prior to performing renovation activities, call us for a free initial consultation. We can perform limited asbestos inspections specific to the area that will be impacted. If you are planning to renovate your home or office, have it inspected first.
Prior to building demolition a certified Building Inspector must sign the demolition permit application in accordance with the EPA and CDPHE regulations. Demolition inspections differ from renovation inspections and we will provide the most cost effective solutions to move from the planning stages to demolition. We have performed large scale projects to facilitate new construction and improvements, such as Belmar, Streets of Southglenn, Saint Anthony’s West, Kuni Lexus and the Light Rail.
During demolition, Schafer assists with OSHA compliance and exposure assessments for demolition contractors. We also provide preventative measure to avoid asbestos contaminated soil.
The EPA has been assessing the exposure risk of asbestos in soil with increasing attention. Superfund sites, such as Libby, Montana where asbestos contamination has been verified with correlating health effects, have increased regulatory procedures and enforcement regarding asbestos contaminated soil (ACS). Again, Schafer’s staff has been performing ACS assessment, characterization and remediation management from the inception of regulatory requirements. In 2005, three (3) members of Schafer’s staff worked with the CDPHE’s Air Quality Control Commission and the CDPHE’s Hazardous Materials and Waste Management Division in the planning, assessment techniques, characterization, management and remediation of the Marathon Oil Company’s 80 acre Petroleum Technology Center (PTC) site. The CDPHE awarded the PTC an environmental excellence award for the cleanup of asbestos contaminated soil and decommissioning of the site Additional ACS projects include:
Schafer’s staff continues to provide Soil Characterization and Management Plans, ACS inspection, consultation and remediation oversight in accordance with CDPHE 6 CCR 1007-2 PART 1 – Regulations Pertaining to Solid Waste Sites and Facilities - Section 5 Asbestos Waste Management.
