Soil Sampling and Remediation

Schafer offers comprehensive soil inspection, sampling, and remediation services, providing clients with cost-effective strategies and full project management services from corrective action planning through regulatory-approved remediation. For asbestos-contaminated soils, Schafer’s CDPHE-certified inspectors conduct initial sampling, implement soil material management plans, and oversee excavation to prevent disturbance of suspect materials. Schafer also performs soil sampling for a wide range of analytes, identifying possible contamination through visual indicators and tailoring each sampling plan to site goals and regulatory requirements. Laboratory results are compared to state and federal screening levels.

Soil Sampling and Remediation

We have several inspectors experienced in soil inspection, excavation, and remediation. Schafer has professional knowledge and expertise to provide our clients with cost-effective remediation strategies for sites with soil contamination. Schafer manages all aspects of remediation projects, from developing corrective and remedial action plans approved by overseeing regulatory agencies and implementing various contaminant removal remedies.

Asbestos Soil Contamination

Our soil excavation supervisors are all Certified Asbestos Inspectors and Certified OSHA HAZWOPER trained to provide the best plan of action for your project. Schafer can provide initial sampling of suspect asbestos materials found in the soil and oversight during excavation activities. Schafer would request site related documents to develop a sampling analysis plan for initial surveying services. If excavation activities are required to achieve project objectives, Schafer has experienced staff to oversee site activities to ensure suspect materials are not impacted.

Soil Sampling

Schafer has extensive experience sampling soil for various analytes as requested by our clients and recommended by our trained staff. We also have the skillset to make observations that could indicate soil contamination while on site. These signs include discolored or stained soil, odors, and sheens at the surface. Each project has its own unique needs, and Schafer works with our clients to achieve project goals and ensure applicable regulations are followed.

Schafer will begin by gaining site information and the goal of the soil sampling services. Learning more about project site goals allows Schafer to make cost-effective recommendations and help our clients navigate the complexities of soil sampling. We have performed soil sampling at surface level, excavation sites, and from soil bores. Schafer’s experienced staff will compare laboratory analytical data to the Colorado Division of Oil and Public Safety Tier 1 Risk-Based Screening Levels, the EPA Regional Screen Levels Summary Table, Resident Soil Screening Levels, and other regulatory limits that may apply based on location and intended land use. Results are delivered to the client upon receiving the laboratory data and a final report is provided within five days.

Schafer works with experienced contractors to design, construct, and implement remediation projects within established timeframes, budgets, and regulatory requirements. We also develop and provide oversight for the implementation of Soil Material Management Plans and Health & Safety Plans.
